In collaboration with the anaesthetic department at Great Ormond Street Hospital, in April and May CATS have been running an extra team for the transport of critically ill adults between North London hospitals.
Good luck to our CATS co-ordinator and lead ANP Mark Clement, who has been deployed with the charity UK EMT to Samoa. There he will help manage the ongoing measles outbreak.
The team are all very proud of Mark – but are also rather worried about who is going to order the ventilator tubing in his absence!
The event dates have been published, and further details related to each event will be shared in the near future.
Starting today, in order to meet increased winter demand, CATS will have a third team on weekdays between 10:00 and 20:00. This team will be used for emergency transports when required, but is also available to do ‘take-backs’ of children from PICUs to local hospitals in order to create intensive care beds.
We have moved our first patient using The Children’s Air Ambulance (TCAA). We hope to use this charitable service regularly for children requiring a long-distance transport in the UK.
The CATS forum was extremely well attended and feedback on the day was very positive.
Next year’s forum will be on the 2nd June. Keep an eye on our website for details of how to register!
The new CATS drug calculator with peripheral adrenaline dosing guidance is now online.
The guidance has been approved by the GOSH Drugs and Therapeutics Committee and has been checked by the GOSH pharmacist; however, as always, it remains the prescriber’s responsibility to check the drug dose before patient use.
