Nurses
A team of full-time CATS nurses are responsible for service delivery, co-ordination of the outreach education program, and in-house training.
Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs)
The ANPs are the most senior clinical nursing staff and all have an MSc in Paediatric Critical Care / Advanced Nursing Practice. They function at a level equivalent to the clinical fellows and can lead the transport team.
Critical Care Nurses
The service is provided by six full time core CATS specialist transport nurses and 50 CATS trained nurses who provide sessional commitments from Great Ormond Street Hospital, St Mary’s Hospital, or Royal Brompton Hospital.

CATS Consultant Staff
CATS is a consultant-led service. A team of consultants is responsible for service delivery, supervision of junior medical staff, provision of outreach education, and service development. CATS consultants are paediatricians or anaesthetists by background and are all trained in paediatric intensive care medicine. The CATS consultants also work in various London PICUs or in paediatric anaesthesia to maintain competencies in their base speciality.

Administrators and Office Staff
A team of administrators provide 24-hour cover for the Referral Hotline and co-ordinate incoming referrals, teleconferencing and communication with clinical team members. Administrators also maintain the CATS database.
Ambulance Technicians
St John’s Ambulance provides a team of specialised ambulance technicians. All are proficient in basic life support and have been trained in further driving skills tailored for the CATS environment. They also maintain the CATS ambulances and equipment.
